The Red Bull KTM Tech3’s Moto3™ team kicked off their campaign in Czechia at the iconic Automotodrom Brno, located in the outskirts of Brno, just 70km north from the Austrian border. With the Grand Prix of Czechia making its return on the calendar for the first time since 2020, both Valentin Perrone and Jacob Roulstone – as most of the lightweight class – were making their debuts on the 5.4 km track, renowned for its challenging layout, featuring 14 corners, including six left-handers and eight right-handers. Both boys did the job on day 1, as they qualified directly to Q2, with Valentin in P5 and Jacob in P11.
Grand Prix of Czechia
Rookie Valentin Perrone was discovering the Czech layout for the first time, and it seemed that the young Argentinian was quick to find his fun in Brno. The feeling was decent in the wet this morning, and the young Coyote could ride a best in 2’15.105 as we saw him take the 8th time of FP1, which ended with a small crash. Nothing major to signal for the Red Bull KTM Tech3 rider who returned to Practice later on. The Argentinian confirmed the strong feeling later on in the afternoon, when he clocked in the 5th fastest lap of the key-Practice session, with a 2’06.278 (+0.438). First target of the weekend achieved for Perrone, who qualified directly for Q2 on Sunday.
Fresh from his solid 8th place at the German Grand Prix and three days of being a tourist in capital city Praha, Australian Jacob Roulstone arrived at Brno with good confidence, eager to finish the first half of the season on a good note before heading to the summer break. The morning started with a wet track, which in a sense was good for our number 12, with the Aussie still lacking a bit of confidence in these conditions. The best of his 15 first laps in Brno was a 2’16.392, placing him in P18 of FP1. The track was almost all dried for the afternoon’s practice, and it turned out to be tricky for Roulstone who got caught in T1 and high sided early into Practice, while he was on a provisional 11th place. The machine was rather damaged, but thanks to the quick work of his technical crew, Jacob was able to get more laps as he rejoined the track. A late 2’06.646 was enough for the number 12 to take the 11th time of the session, and qualify alongside his teammate for Saturday’s Q2! Top job from the whole Red Bull KTM Tech3 squad, who will be back on track on Saturday with Free Practice 2 at 8:40 LT (UTC+2), followed later on by qualifying 2 at 13:15!
VALENTIN PERRONE: "Great first day in Brno for us! I felt really comfortable in the wet conditions this morning, and I had so much fun all day! I really love this track! In the dry this afternoon, I tried to push a bit more to get a new reference, and I felt super fast from the beginning. We could improve the bike setting during the session, which I was happy with. I feel fast, so let's try to arrive with Saturday in the same way, and try to qualify well!"
JACOB ROULSTONE: "Firstly, huge thanks to the boys for the quick bike rebuild following my crash. I was probably asking too much in T1, with too much lean angle, but in the end, we are just a bit sore and that's it. I felt more confident in the wet in FP1, and same in the afternoon, so I felt pretty fast today. We did not get a lot of laps this afternoon, so I feel like I have some speed left heading to tomorrow! This track is so fun, I like it a lot!"
