The Grand Prix of Germany action kicked off at the unique Sachsenring track on Friday morning for the Red Bull KTM Moto3™ squad, with Jacob Roulstone and Valentin Perrone ready for another double header, with the Grand Prix of Czech Republic following next week before the summer break. Jacob Roulstone showed good form on the opening day, as he finished 5th of Practice to grab his direct Q2 ticket, while last round’s podium-finisher Valentin Perrone will need to go through Q1 on Saturday, after taking P20 in Practice.

Grand Prix of Germany

Eager to score big points after several rounds fighting at the front, Australian Jacob Roulstone was ready to make the German GP count. The number 12 got the first taste of the shortest layout of the calendar in the opening Free Practice 1, which he finished with the 17th time in 1'26.989 after 19 laps. As the feeling looked strong in the morning, Jacob was able to continue pushing in the afternoon’s Practice. He could ride a solid 1’25.264 which got him the 5th time of the session, 0.497 off the new all-time lap record in Moto3™ set by David Muñoz in 1’24.767. Target of the day achieved for our Aussie, who will head directly to Q2 on Saturday.

Rookie Valentin Perrone had a week to recover from his dreamy Dutch Grand Prix where we saw the young Argentinian take his maiden Grand Prix podium, with a brilliant P3-finish. A new challenge was lying ahead for the number 73, and Free Practice 1 was used to understand the 3.67 km layout of 13 corners (10 left and 3 right). He was right behind teammate Roulstone in the timesheets of FP1 in 18th with a 1'27.424, before heading to the afternoon’s Practice. Valentin could make some improvements as the learning continued, but he eventually got a bit short of the Q2 spots, and finished in 20th with a 1’26.550. Perrone will have to go through pre-qualifying on Saturday afternoon, after a final free practice session on Saturday morning at 8:40 (UTC+2).

JACOB ROULSTONE: "I think we did one of our best exits this morning, everything was adjusting quite well. This afternoon, I felt good with the pace, comfortable on my own, and I was pretty happy with our plan and the time attacks. Good first day in the office, we have enjoyed it, so let's continue working for tomorrow!"

VALENTIN PERRONE: "Sachsenring is a new track for me, and it is quite tricky! I have not really understood yet how to ride well here, and the feeling was not great today, in both sessions. We will check carefully the data, and try to see where we can improve to be faster tomorrow. We will give our best to go to Q2!"
