#MalaysianGP - November 2, 2024

Moto3™ kicked off a packed-action Super Saturday at the Sepang International Circuit with Red Bull GASGAS Tech3’s Daniel Holgado and Jacob Roulstone facing the penultimate qualifying shootout of the season, after a morning’s Practice 2 welcomed by some small drops of rain. After heading directly to Q2, Holgado qualified in 11th on the grid ahead of the Malaysian Grand Prix, while Jacob Roulstone will line up in P20 on the grid.

Provisionally qualified in Q2 after his P7 from day 1, Daniel Holgado showed good form in the morning session spent in weird conditions, with a mix of sun and sometimes some rain drops affecting specific areas of the circuit. That did not bother Holgado too much though, who rounded up the session with a fastest in 2’10.747 to take 8th in the combined standing and head to Q2. In a busy final qualifying session, Daniel Holgado’s best of his first run was a 2’10.814. He returned to the pit box halfway through, but what seemed to be a last minute change of strategy saw him return on track quickly. He was not able to improve his lap time, so that 2 '10.814 ended up being his best. He will start the race from P11, with the main target to take a strong start to get close to the front group. The Spaniard needs big points on Sunday to retain his second position in the championship.

Jacob Roulstone was provisionally in Q2 with a P8 at the end of play on Friday. There was still work to do in the morning with many riders showing good speed. The level went up significantly with Adrian Fernandez taking the new all-time lap record in Practice 2 with a 2’10.102 (which was later improved). Roulstone was able to improve from yesterday in the early laps, to a 2’11.468 to provisionally be in the top 10. However, he did not find a way to further improve in the final minutes, so he finished P19, and was on the entry list of Q1. In the hot and humid afternoon session, Roulstone opted for a sole run rather than a pit box return. Halfway through, he was provisionally in the top 4 with an early 2’11.454. With the final laps going down for everyone, Roulstone managed to find a few more thousandths with a late 2’11.449, but that was too short to make it to the top 4. He finished the session in 6th, and he will start the Grand Prix of Malaysia from P20, as lights go out at 12:00 local time (GMT+8).

Position: 11th

Time: 2'10.814

Laps: 6

"We were fast in the morning, feeling good, but it was never the same in the afternoon’s Q2. Sepang is a very long track, the conditions are hot and humid, so tomorrow will be a very difficult race. However, I feel confident in myself, we know that we can do a good race if we take a strong start from P11."

Position: 20th

Time: 2'11.449

Laps: 7

"The final position is disappointing for us looking at where we were yesterday. We improved our feeling on the bike and the set up, but we did not put things right in qualifying to make a fast lap. I feel like I have a good race pace, so starting from P20 is not what I wanted, but we will try to be aggressive directly from the start tomorrow to be able to try to go with the front group if we can.”
