#IndonesianGP - September 29, 2024

Another fantastic Moto3™ race took place at the Mandalika International Circuit on Sunday in the humid heat of Lombok island, hosting round 15 of the 2024 Moto3™ World Championship. From 14th on the grid, Daniel Holgado delivered another stunning performance to eventually bag a P6-finish at the Indonesian Grand Prix, while Jacob Roulstone finished just outside of the points, in 16th.

Feeling much better than yesterday following his P2 crash, Daniel Holgado was ready for a tough fight under the scorching sun of Lombok. Starting from mid-grid is always tricky in the lightweight class, so from his P14, the Spaniard held his grid position in the opening lap. Once things settled down a bit more, he progressively started to gain positions. He was in 11th after 2 laps, P9 after 3, and P7 after 4 laps. In very little time, he had made his way from the middle of the grid to join the leading group, and it took him 9 laps to really be part of the battle for the win, as he finally made a top 5 entrance. Ahead of him, there were Colin Veijer, Adrian Fernandez, David Alonso and Tatsuki Suzuki, and soon he made a move on the Japanese rider to move up to 4th while Veijer continued to lead. Shortly after though, the Dutch crashed in sector 2, and Dani progressed to the top 3, and in no time he was in 2nd behind new race leader Adrian Fernandez as eight laps remained. There was pressure from behind that Holgado had to manage, while preparing his next move. In 13 laps, the Red Bull GASGAS Tech3 rider had gained 12 positions, and was not going to stop there. On lap 15, Holgado gave an extra push and aggressively made a move on Fernandez to move up to first, bringing a few more with him as the #31 went down to 5th, but the battle was intense and Fernandez gained back the positions, while Dani dropped a few. With two laps to go, the Spaniard was in P7 as his chances of winning were going away, while David Alonso had settled at the front. Holgado gained one more position to finish in 6th. It is a decent result for the Spaniard, who grows his gap to Ivan Ortola in the riders championship heading to Motegi.

The weekend in Lombok had not been as dreamy as hoped so far for Red Bull GASGAS Tech3's Jacob Roulstone, who was starting from 19th after we saw him miss out on Q2 by just 0.009 seconds on Saturday. As lights went out, Jacob did not get his start right and dropped to P22 in one lap. He regrouped quickly, and in two laps he had returned to his grid position in 18th behind Riccardo Rossi. Jacob could then try setting himself up with the race pace to try closing the gap on the front, but somehow he did not appear confident enough to make it. He was then handed a long lap penalty for short cut at T9, which slowed him down in his progression. In the end, he saw the checkered flag in 16th, just outside of the points. Luckily, we already have another chance to make things better as we will now head to the final leg of this tripleheader, in Japan!

Position: 6th

Championship: 2nd

Points: 199

"The race was tough, it was hot. We gave our best, with a great start and many places gained but the pain from yesterday’s crash became more intense in the last eight laps. I gave all I had, but these last laps were difficult. I am proud of the job done, thank you to my team for their hard work! We now have a few days of rest before a new opportunity in Japan next week, and hopefully we will be able to fight for the podium again.”

Position: 16th

Championship: 15th

Points: 50

"I am disappointed with the race overall. We continued to struggle in the opening laps and I did not find the confidence to set myself up with a good race pace. I am not able yet to point out what went wrong, but I believe in my team and the people around me, and I know they will help me get where we want to be. Huge thanks to them for the weekend in Indonesia, let’s look forward to the next round in Motegi!”

"We were a bit worried about the outcome of our weekend in Lombok after yesterday’s crash in Practice 2 involving both Daniel Holgado and Jacob Roulstone. Dani could have been badly injured, but he managed to return on track to qualify in P14 in the afternoon, which was already good considering his physical condition. Today, he delivered another stunning performance in the race, going up to P1 at some point from P14, even setting up the fastest lap of the day in his remontada, but Moto3 is always tricky, especially in the last laps. He lost some positions in the final laps to finish P6, but we are happy with this result, and we take it. We are still second in the riders’ championship, and we have increased the gap to third, so it is a good weekend for Dani. Jacob Roulstone did not have an easy weekend, he never really felt comfortable on the track and was not really fast. It is another round with no points, and the bad run continues. Something is missing, which is worrying, so we really need to understand how to help Jacob get back to better forms, and try improving in Motegi next weekend!”
