Racing finally came back on Sunday in Silverstone circuit, with the Moto3™ class kicking off an exciting Sunday at the British Grand Prix. Red Bull GASGAS Tech3’s Jacob Roulstone and Daniel Holgado had good chances to perform well, respectively starting from 6th and 8th on the grid. Holgado gave his all on track, fighting for the victory all race long, but a hectic final saw him cross the line in P4 in England, while Jacob Roulstone finished in 17th, after he was handed a long-lap penalty early in the race.
Starting from 8th on the grid, Daniel Holgado negotiated his start decently as he joined the front boys within a few turns, exiting lap 1 in third. He was then second, and then took the lead on lap 3 ahead of Australian Joel Kelso as he rode slightly faster than the guys ahead. Kelso eventually took the lead again, and Dani was just behind, leading the chasing group, a big one of eleven riders, three seconds ahead of the rest of the grid. Remaining calm was key for the #96, with David Alonso just behind, observing, as usual. The group was close, and any of these eleven young boys was a potential winner at that time of the race, and as nine laps remained, Holgado was in third, but the front constantly overtook each other, with their positions changing quickly. When five laps remained, we started seeing riders position themselves and prepare their respective strategies for the final laps. Championship leader Alonso was closer and closer, in the wheels of Dani, who was himself in the back wheel of Colin Veijer, while Ivan Ortola led 0.4 seconds ahead. Three laps remaining. The battle for the win was on more than ever, who was going to win it? Alonso took the lead on Holgado-Ortola, but all riders were so close! Veijer made a move on the GASGAS Tech3 rider in the last turn of lap 13, leaving Holgado with just two laps to get himself back up on the podium. In the last lap, Ortola exited first, Dani was 4th with Alonso and Veijer ahead. Defense was pretty strong, and we saw our Red Bull GASGAS Tech3 rider cross the line in P4, a great result for Holgado after a few difficult rounds. He will head to Austria third in the championship, thirteen points behind Ivan Ortola.
Rookie Jacob Roulstone was starting from the second row after a great weekend so far in Silverstone. When lights went out at 11:15 for fifteen laps, the Aussie missed out a bit on his start, losing a few positions in the first corners. A contact with David Munoz saw both riders head to the gravels, without crashing, but still, everything had to be redone as Jacob found himself at the back. Shortly after, Roulstone had to complete a long-lap penalty he was handed by the race direction, due to irresponsible riding on the Munoz action. Once that was completed, he was in P20. Hopes of a great result were gone for the rookie who had done such an amazing job this weekend, but from there, he had to focus on his pace, and try catching up on the rest, to eventually target a point-scoring position. On lap 7, he passed through Noah Dettwiler, one position gained. On to the next one, as his lap times were faster than the two riders ahead of him. With similar lap times to the front group of the race, Roulstone then overtook Tatchakorn Buarsi, making it to P18 with five laps to go. One more rider passed, and Jacob completed the British Grand Prix in P17. It is a disappointing result for the young rookie who had better objectives, but let's analyse today's events, regroup, and head to the next round in Austria, home to Pierer Mobility, stronger!
