The Moto3™ class was first to open the celebrations on track on Friday morning as Red Bull GASGAS Tech3’s Daniel Holgado and Jacob Roulstone kicked off their second half of the season at the iconic Silverstone circuit, host to the British Grand Prix. Roulstone set the tone with an impressive third place at the end of play today, and Holgado took the final provisional Q2 spot as he closed the top 14. Both riders will have a task to complete on Saturday morning ahead of qualifying in the afternoon.
Three weeks off in summer is great for sure, but riding your bike is much better! Rookie Jacob Roulstone will agree with that as the Aussie was extremely excited to reunite with his GASGAS after three ‘long’ weeks, according to the man himself. After his heartbreak from the German Grand Prix that saw finish with a DNF while being provisionally in the top 10, the Australian boy was hungry for points this weekend. Free Practice rolled on as usual for Jacob, as he found his marks on the 5.9 km layout. His best in 2'11.635 saw him finish the session in P14, two seconds off the leader. In Practice 1, Jacob pushed a bit more and we saw him progressively reduce the gap with his opponents. With 5 minutes left on the clock, the rookie set a great lap in 2’10.038, one that had him provisionally in P2! Eventually, that time saw him close the session in third, meaning that the rookie heads to Saturday with a provisional ticket for Q2 to defend.
Third in the championship, Daniel Holgado was also eager for the action to return as an exciting and busy second half of 2024 lies ahead of us in the lightweight class. In the morning’s Free Practice, Holgado set his best lap in 2'10.519 during a session dedicated to trying different bike’s settings to optimize his performances on the British layout. While David Alonso destroyed the all-time lap record with a 2’09.600, later on broken again by Colin Veijer with a 2'09.565, Dani sat in P10 at the end of the opening session. Later on in the afternoon, Practice 1 was on with provisional Q2 spots to take. As he continued to try out a few things on his bike, a late lap in 2’10.651 was just enough for the #96 to close the top 10. Dani will need to find a way to gain a few more hundredths in Saturday’s Practice 2, should he want to secure a direct Q2 ticket. Moto3™ will resume tomorrow morning at 8:40 local time (GMT+1), with Practice 2, followed later on with the qualifying sessions, from 12:50 local time.
