Taking his first two wins in the Asia Talent Cup upon its inauguration in 2014, Ayumu Sasaki then took the crown the following year as well as racing in the Red Bull Rookies Cup and gaining his first victory there. Racing in the FIM CEV Repsol Moto3 Junior World Championship in Valencia in 2015, the Japanese rider took a podium first time out.

His meteoric rise continued in 2016, as he was Red Bull Rookies Champion, and sixth in Moto3 in the CEV. With one appearance in the World Championship with Gresini Racing Moto3 to replace injured title-contender Enea Bastianini, Ayumu raced full time on the world stage in 2017 with SIC Racing Team and took the title of Rookie of the Year.

For 2018, the Japanese talent remained for his sophomore season. He took two front row starts and some top 10 results despite some struggles with fitness. The following year, he competed with the same team in the Moto3 World Championship and brought home his first pole position at the German GP, several top 10’s plus one top 5 in Argentina.

For the 2020 season, Ayumu joined the newly formed Red Bull KTM Tech3 Moto3 outfit to compete aboard a KTM for the very first time. With a learning curve, he made it to the podium for the very first time at the Alcañiz Grand Prix with second, plus scored a front row start at the final round of the season in Portugal. In 2021, the Japanese youngster will remain with Red Bull KTM Tech3, targeting to further progress.
