Red Bull KTM Tech3 completed the final qualifying day of the 2022 Moto3 World Championship today in Spain, with the track being rather cold in the morning before heating up for the qualifying sessions. Turkish rider Deniz Oncu will start his final Grand Prix with the crew from the front row in P2, and local boy Adrian Fernandez in P24.

Deniz Oncu finished the first day in Valencia eleventh in the combined standing, so the target of the final free practice session this morning was to gain even more confidence on the track and secure a ticket to Q2. Just like the rest of the lightweight class, he rode faster than Friday (-0.596 secs), which allowed him to take the thirteenth place in the standings, and head directly to the final qualifying session. In the afternoon, he remained one of the fastest riders and a final time attack towards the end got him a ticket to Parc Fermé, one last time with his Red Bull KTM Tech3 team. Set to start second tomorrow, there is only one goal, the first win.

After taking a good start on his home race on Friday with a fifteenth place overall, the Spaniard was eager to give an extra push this morning in order to try giving a pass on Q1. In FP3, he managed to improve his fastest lap to 1’39.643, but ranked twenty-first in the combined standing. In the afternoon, an early crash in Q1 prevented the young Fernandez from showing his potential at the circuit Ricardo Tormo. Despite the fast work from his crew to fix his bike, he was only able to do one fast lap, and will start the Gran Premio de la Comunitat Valenciana from P24 on Sunday, when the lights go out at 11:00 (GMT+1) for twenty-three laps.

Grid Position: 2

Time: 1'38.525

"Starting from the front row is very good and I look forward to tomorrow’s race. We will have a big job tomorrow because I would like to win my first race with this team, and doing it in our last race together would be special. I also have my manager, my brother, Toprak Razgatlioglu and my friends who are here for me this weekend, so it would be a dream. Let’s try to make it happen."

Adrian Fernandez

Grid Position: 24

Time: 1'39.958

Laps: 5

"I have had a good feeling with the bike but I struggled putting together a fast lap this morning in FP3 and missed out on Q2. Unfortunately I crashed in the first lap of qualifying 1 and it complicated everything. My team did an amazing job to fix my bike quickly so I could at least have a fast lap. The starting position is not great, but we are focused on tomorrow’s race and hopefully we can have a good race. Thank you to my team for their work today."
