KTM riders Deniz Oncu and Adrian Fernandez, together with their crews, headed straight to Assen in the Netherlands following the German Grand Prix, where they respectively reached the 7th and 8th positions. For the final round before taking a well-deserved summer break, both were eager to finish the first half of the season on a high note.

Fifth in the championship after ten races, the young Turkish Deniz Oncu was coming to Assen still looking to achieve podium success this season. So far, he has managed to regularly make Top 5 finishes but has always come too short to make it to the first three. After a very hot media day on Thursday in the Netherlands, the first drops of rain made their appearance as the bikes were warming up this morning. On a completely wet track, Deniz provided great efforts in the first free practice and appeared confident in the rain as he was the second fastest in 1’52.689. In the afternoon, the conditions were milder but still tricky, but it did not stop the youngster to improve to 1’50.342 and secure a provisional Q2 spot in P9.

Teammate Adrian Fernandez was coming from his best result of the season in Sachsenring after taking a Top 10 subscription as he reached it for the third time in a row. The Spaniard struggled a bit more to dance in the rain this morning, but worked well with a best ride in 1’55.935. In the afternoon, he gained both confidence and feeling as he took his time down to 1’51.661. He ends the day in the twenty-second position, and will be hoping for a dryer Saturday in order to grab positions on the starting grid. The action of the Dutch Grand Prix will resume tomorrow, at 9 :00 local time(GMT+2).

"It has been raining a lot today but we took a rather good start to the Dutch Grand Prix weekend. We have had a good rhythm and I was feeling good on the wet track today. I feel positive about our first day and we will see how the weather behaves tomorrow."

Adrian Fernandez

Position: 22nd

Time: 1'51.661

Laps: 34

"The track conditions were really difficult today in Assen with the rain. I had a good feeling in Free Practice 1 this morning, but in the afternoon I was struggling a bit more and I could not improve my lap time. This is only the first day, so we will look forward to tomorrow and will aim to grab a few positions in the table."
