The Red Bull KTM Tech3 crew headed to Le Mans in France this week for the SHARK Grand Prix de France, the seventh round of the Moto3 World Championship. The Bugatti circuit is always a special place for the Tech3 family as it hosts their home race of the year. Deniz Oncu and Adrian Fernandez were therefore both excited to get things started in the right way for their team this morning, following a busy Thursday meeting all the fans who were back in numbers for the first time since 2019.

Fifth in the championship after six races including five Top 5 results, Turkish rider Deniz Oncu came to Le Mans with only one objective, going to Parc Fermé on Sunday. The action kicked off at 9:00 local time (GMT+2) as Deniz jumped on his KTM for the first forty minutes of the weekend, with the aim to continue developing the settings of his bike, which he has been focusing on the last couple of weekends. As the session went on, he progressively improved his times and went faster in all the sectors towards the end, reaching a best lap time of 1’43.146. He was eleventh this morning, less than one second away from the top. When the action resumed in the afternoon, the track got hotter as the sun kept shining in Le Mans, but Deniz headed back quickly to his pit box after a few laps so that his mechanics could change some parts of his KTM. Progress was made as he was able to improve quickly to 1’42.792 in the last minutes of the session. At the end of the day, Deniz finishes twelfth, meaning that he will have a provisional Q2 spot to defend tomorrow morning.

Teammate Adrian Fernandez was back in full force following two difficult weekends in Portimao and Jerez due to his fingers’ injury. In a similar way than Deniz, the Spaniard took his time to adapt to the exciting Bugatti circuit this morning before pushing a bit more towards the end of the session. He rode in 1’43.731 and finished in P18. In the afternoon, a few issues encountered when entering the corners meant that Pitito was unable to improve his time during FP2. He ends the day in P25, and will look to improve tomorrow.

Deniz Öncü

Position: 12th

Time: 1'42.792

Laps: 32

"The first day here in Le Mans was not as good as the previous weekends. We finish the day in P12, which is ok because it is a provisional Q2, but I had higher expectations. We are working on the bike in order to improve a few points, and I am hoping that we can be faster tomorrow."

Adrian Fernandez

Position: 25th

Time: 1'43.751

Laps: 31

"The first day here in France was not an easy one. I was struggling to turn in the corners and I am not sure that we had a good strategy with the tyres this afternoon. I was not able to improve my lap time, but tomorrow is another day and we will aim to improve. Thank you team."
