The Red Bull KTM Tech3 duo of Deniz Öncü and Ayumu Sasaki started the second week in Spielberg, Austria successfully with the 10th and 14th fastest lap times in the combined standings of the first two Free Practice sessions in the Moto3 World Championship.

The Turkish youngster Öncü did his fastest lap in FP1 this morning with a 1:36.590, which put him in sixth straight away. After the second session of the day, he misses out on the top by just 0.593 seconds in order to conclude Friday at the Grand Prix of Styria well placed inside the top 10. At the same time, Sasaki managed to go even quicker in the hotter afternoon practice, ending up just 0.118 seconds behind his teammate in P14, which makes him securing the final provisional Q2 spot ahead of Qualifying day tomorrow.

Deniz Öncü

Position: 10th

Time: 1:36.590

Laps: 37

"Today was a good day! I finished sixth in FP1, which was great, because I also improved my lap time compared to last weekend. In Free Practice two we were working with used tyres on the first exit. In exit two, I wanted to make a lap time, but I ran into some traffic on what could have been my fastest lap. Tomorrow, I try to do better."

Ayumu Sasaki

Position: 14th

Time: 1:36.708

Laps: 37

"Overall, it has been a good day. I tried to focus on myself and tried to improve what I needed to improve after last weekend. The conditions are a bit different than one week ago, so also my feelings on the bike changed a bit, although I tried to adapt in FP2. In the second outing of the second Free Practice session, we had a great improvement. On top of that, we did a long run with decent lap times on an old tyre, so I’m happy with it. My last lap was quite ok, but not enough. Tomorrow we need to improve again, but at least, we are in Q2 for the moment, in case the weather tomorrow morning is not as nice as today. We are still working on a few things, but we are coming and I’m happy that we could finish FP2 in P9."
