One week ahead of the official start of Red Bull KTM Tech3’s first Moto3 World Championship season, the field was back on track in Qatar today for the first of three official days of testing.

Thereby, Ayumu Sasaki was working to adapt his riding style to his new KTM machine at the circuit, which will host the first round in 2020, marking a 2:07.544 as his fastest lap. At the same time, Deniz Öncü was quick this morning and concluded his first Moto3 day in Qatar eventually 0.587 seconds behind his teammate.

Ayumu Sasaki

Position: 17th

Time: 2:07.544

Laps: 45

"I was riding the KTM bike for the first time on a different track than Jerez and didn’t know how it’s going to be. I started quite slowly, this track is completely different, it’s faster and automatically the speed is much higher, so I tried to adapt to this with the bike and my riding style. In the end, we managed to be P17, which is not too bad for the first day. We still have room to improve, I just need to check the data now and hopefully we can go faster tomorrow."

Deniz Öncü

Position: 25th

Time: 2:08.131

Laps: 54

"This has been my first day with the Moto3 in Qatar. In the first session, the track surface was a bit slippery, but we managed to do a quite good lap time. In the second outing today, I tried the thumb break for the first time, but I realized it’s better to get familiar with the circuit first. In the final session of today, I couldn’t improve as much as I wanted, but we still have two days left to do this, so I’m optimistic."
