With an impressive fastest lap of 1:38.511 minutes, Red Bull KTM Tech3’s Deniz Öncü concluded FP1 at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo this morning in second position, although his weekend didn’t start ideal with a fall in the early stages. In FP2, the Moto3 World Championship rookie managed to work on his rhythm, staying fantastic fourth overall with his morning’s best.

At the same time, Ayumu Sasaki made it into the top 14 at the end of the first session of the Gran Premio de la Comunitat Valenciana this weekend. Like his teammate, the Japanese youngster couldn’t lower his lap time in the afternoon, but ended Friday just 0.697 seconds behind the top. Sasaki aims to find his way back to the direct Q2 spots in FP3 tomorrow starting at 10.00 local time.

"Compared to last week the weather conditions have been decent today. At least, it was not raining like last Friday and Saturday. Everybody was using these conditions and was quite fast, but we have been fast as well. To make it to the top four on the first day gives me a lot of confidence for the rest of the weekend. Our pace is also quite good, which makes me happy. The plan for tomorrow is to do a strong Qualifying."

Ayumu Sasaki

Position: 21st

Time: 1:39.110

Laps: 25

"It was quite an ok first day. We improved compared to last week, but I think in FP2 we went in the wrong direction and it took us some time to realize that. I have to admit, that I’m not satisfied with this second session, as I was quite sure I could improve my FP1 time. The position doesn’t look very good, but I think we are not so far from the top and we will try to come back tomorrow, because we know we can do well."
