The Red Bull KTM Tech3 pair of Ayumu Sasaki and Deniz Öncü managed to deliver a decent European GP today, finishing inside the points scoring positions, after a difficult Qualifying on Saturday made them facing a tough challenge in the hard-fought Moto3 class.

Sasaki started from P26, but made up several positions already on the opening lap to cover P15 after the first four kilometers of the race. He went on to fight inside a tough group throughout all the 23 laps, eventually crossing the line in 10th. Yet, Öncü lost a bit of ground in the opening laps, but showed a strong comeback from 27th on the grid towards the top 15, even gaining two points with P14 in the end.

Ayumu Sasaki

Position: 10th

Championship: 16th

Points: 49

"Today has been really difficult, as we started just from the ninth row. I made a good start, could avoid some action in the front, as the track conditions were not perfect. My only disappointment was the last lap, because I did a small mistake, which put me in P10, after we were fighting for P7. But we take the positives; we finished the race one more time inside the top 10 and are looking forward now to the second round here. We are closer to the front compared to Aragón one. I know where I have to improve and if I manage this, I know I can be close to the front. I just hope the weather will be a bit better for next week. Anyway, we take many positives away from his weekend."

Deniz Öncü

Position: 14th

Championship: 19th

Points: 34

"After the Qualifying yesterday, we started quite far back and I had a lot of work to do to find my way towards the front. But I did a good start and wanted to make up ground quickly, but there was a big mess. Plus, I was losing a lot on the straight. At the moment, we need to find out what was the issue and we need to solve it for next week."

"An ok result for the Red Bull KTM Tech3 Moto3 team. One more time Qualifying was the low point of the weekend. We knew the pace was good enough to be top 10, but we didn’t use track conditions at their best with the shower we had for Q1. Anyway, we had a strong briefing last night and told our riders that they should believe, although the grid positions were quite bad and this is what they did. They had a good start and I’m quite proud to see both, Ayumu and Deniz in the points. 10 and 14 is not the ideal result, but when you watch the grid positions, I think this is quite a strong outcome. Again, the lap times were very similar to the leaders, so as I say almost every Sunday, it’s crucial to qualify better and last time we qualified in the second row, Ayumu ended up second in the race. We have another weekend here. Hopefully the weather is going to be a little bit more stable. The target is trying to have our two guys in the top 10, which would be a dream. Still, a great race for our two guys, great fighting spirit, a great never-give-up attitude. Now digest all the information you’ve been learning today and try to be stronger next week."
