Deniz Öncü started the second round at the MotorLand Aragón circuit today with the third fastest time in a slightly warmer FP1 session on Friday morning. Although the Moto3 World Championship rookie couldn’t further improve his personal best in the afternoon, he remains in seventh overall, which means he secures a decent overnight Q2 spot.

Meanwhile, his Red Bull KTM Tech3 teammate Ayumu Sasaki struggled to find his pace in this mornings’ FP1, but managed to improve by more than one second in the afternoon. He concluded Friday in P25 overall, just 0.643 seconds off the top 10 pace. The Japanese youngster is eager to make another step forward tomorrow morning in FP3 at 10.00 local time.

"Actually, we had a quite good start to the weekend as I could already do a fast lap time this morning. In the second Free Practice we were struggling a lot because of the wind, which was a lot stronger than this morning. Finally, I end up in seventh today, so I’m pretty happy about this. I think we need to improve a lot in these difficult conditions as well, but I think we will be ready for tomorrow in order to do a decent Qualifying and be ready for the race on Sunday."

Ayumu Sasaki

Position: 25th

Time: 1:59.269

Laps: 31

"For me it was a difficult first day. We tried some new things, as we found some details to improve from last weekend. We changed the strategy, but it was not easy. We need to analyze many things today in order to find the right solutions for the setting. Overall, our pace is not so bad, we try to understand now where we can improve and go quicker tomorrow."
