The Circuit Ricardo Tormo welcomed riders and teams for the ultimate race weekend in 2021 with mixed weather conditions. Yet, the Moto3 World Championship was lucky to get nearly the full first session in dry conditions, whereas the wet track just started to dry out again at the start of Free Practice two at lunchtime. Due to the wet parts on the asphalt, no rider managed to improve on their morning times in FP2.

Red Bull KTM Tech3’s Ayumu Sasaki already did a fast lap in Free Practice one, where he finished in a decent eighth position. Meanwhile, Deniz Öncü, who is just coming back after forced break of five weeks, got acclimatized again quickly again to finish in P14, which makes him holding an overnight Q2 spot until the action resumes with FP3 tomorrow morning at 9.00 local time.

"I think it was a good first day. FP2 was unfortunately in wet conditions, so we couldn’t ride a lot. Still, from FP1 I had a quite decent feeling on the bike, which I had from Portugal, although it’s a completely different track. Hopefully tomorrow and Sunday will be fully dry. We need to improve a little bit on the bike, but we are already not so far away from what we want. So, I’m very confident, very satisfied and let’s see what we can do tomorrow."

Position: 14th

Time: 1:40.253

Laps: 30

"Finally, I am back after I was disqualified after America. It was a long time without riding my Moto3 bike and on this first day, I felt really good. I’m stronger than I expected, to be honest. I’m happy with my feeling and the job we all did today. I was P14 in the dry. In mixed FP2, I ended up 13th, which is not so bad. I used this day to rediscover my feeling on the bike and for tomorrow we are targeting a better position."
