The 13th round of the 2021 Moto3 World Championship saw Deniz Öncü performing at his best from day one. After the Turkish youngster topped Friday’s proceedings, he secured a top 5 result by the end of the Free Practice sessions this morning to arrive straight in Q2. In Qualifying he claimed sixth, although he couldn’t match his fastest time from this morning. Yet he was missing out on the front row by just 0.338 seconds.

On the other side of the Red Bull KTM Tech3 garage, Ayumu Sasaki failed to secure a straight Q2 ticket by a whisker this morning. But the Japanese made up for it when ending Q1 in third, which meant he advanced to Q2. In the final 15 minutes long session for the lightweight class he went one tenth quicker than in Q1 and eventually ended up in P16, which means he’ll start tomorrow’s 19 laps race from the sixth row of the grid.

"All the weekend we have been strong so far. Qualifying was not so easy for us though, as we didn’t find the perfect setup in FP3. We still need to change some things, after the direction was not the right one in Q2. Anyway, we will try to do better tomorrow. It looks like we are really strong and therewith definitely can’t wait for the race tomorrow."

Ayumu Sasaki

Position: 16th

Time: 1:58.893

Laps: 7

"It has been another difficult day. We are not feeling at 100% with the setup of the bike. I wanted more, so I was pushing, but I feel already at the limit. We tried one thing, which was better than yesterday, but still not, what I was looking for. I don’t know what we are capable of tomorrow, but we will analyze, try to understand, try to improve and be focused on tomorrow. I imagine the race will be tricky, but at least I think we can follow the front group and learn many things."
