Red Bull KTM Tech3’s Ayumu Sasaki delivered an uphill weekend at the sunny Circuito de Jerez-Angel Nieto. After concluding the Free Practice sessions in P13 overall, he went straight to Q2 and thereby, with the slipstream of his teammate, the Japanese managed to clock the eighth fastest time of the field.

Yet, Deniz Öncü did his fastest laps on his own nearly all throughout the weekend so far. The Turkish youngster landed a superb second position at the end of FP3 this morning and lead his teammate during the decisive part of Qualifying at midday to start the Gran Premio Red Bull de España from row four when the red lights turn off at 11:00 local time tomorrow.

Position: 8th

“Today has been an ok day. We finished P8, which is quite good. For the race, everybody will be quite fast here, so it’s going to be a tough battle. I have a few things still to improve, so I need to work on that. I’m quite happy with the position, but with my feeling, I think I need another step for the race.”

“We are almost ready, there are still a few places to improve. We just need to focus on the Warm Up tomorrow, which will be very early and pretty cold. The bike is improving every day, so I guess we can do that final step tomorrow. My target was to be in the first three rows, so I’m happy.”

Deniz Öncü

Position: 10th

Time: 1:46.449

Laps: 8

“My position on the grid will finally be P10. Until now, we have been working very hard and we have a great pace, which is really good. In Qualifying, I think I could have been doing a better lap time, but I guess I pushed a bit too much, did some mistakes and was sliding, so it wasn’t the perfect, clean lap for me. In the end, I just went alone and my pace was strong, so I’m more than ready to fight in the race tomorrow.”
