Red Bull KTM Tech3’s Deniz Öncü got off a strong start to the Gran Premio Red Bull de España today. With the fifth fastest time in the morning session the Turkish youngster was gaining a lot of trust. Doing his quick laps on his own during Free Practice two, Öncü showed a strong pace and secured a fine P9 overall on Friday.

In the meantime, Ayumu Sasaki made huge steps throughout day one at the Circuito de Jerez – Angel Nieto. Following a smooth start in FP1, the Japanese improved by 2.382 seconds this afternoon to place himself in P11, which means he’ll sit in a provisional Q2 position overnight like his teammate.

"So far we are quite happy. In FP1, we have been fifth fastest with only 0.2 seconds to the top. This afternoon, I managed to end up in P9 with just 0.8. The good thing is, that I pushed all day by myself and I have a good feeling and a strong pace. I’m very satisfied about this and I already feel ready to start the race, although we still have tomorrow."

Ayumu Sasaki

Position: 11th

Time: 1:46.528

Laps: 33

"This first day has been decent, finishing in P11. In FP1, we were working for the race with used tyres, so the result was not really important. Anyway, I felt good with the bike already this morning. In the second session, we pushed for a fast lap time and finished in P11. We could see that we have a good speed, yet I made a few mistakes on my fast lap. Therefore, I will try to further improve in FP3 tomorrow morning. Overall, I think we did well today."
