Strong winds and sand complicated Saturday’s proceedings at the Losail International Circuit. Therefore, Ayumu Sasaki was unable to improve his lap time during FP3 today, but tried to pull out everything in Q1 late afternoon. Yet, the Japanese ended up in eighth, which means he’ll launch off the line tomorrow from row six.

Meanwhile, Deniz Öncü faced similar issues in stormy Free Practice three today. On top, he will have to start from pit lane in tomorrow’s second round of 2021 at 17:00 local time (16:00 CET), after receiving a penalty for slow riding in FP2 yesterday. In the Qualifying session, he was still aiming to try his best, but was unlucky on his first flying lap.

Position: 18th

Time: 2:07.948

Laps: 7

“Today has been another difficult day. It was extremely windy and I couldn’t find a way to do a fast lap time in these conditions. It was my fault, but it’s not easy to get a feeling for the bike when you are riding almost three seconds slower.”

“I’m disappointed about today, but in a Moto3 race everything is possible. As it seems, it’s going to be very windy again tomorrow. We will try to catch the group, try to understand and never give up. We will focus and we know that we have a good pace with used tyres. I’ll be giving everything to catch the front.”

“Of course, I knew that there was nothing to gain for me, because I have to start from the pit lane tomorrow. But I wanted to do my best and see, what I could have been achieving in Qualifying. So, I tried and started to push from the beginning.”

“Unfortunately, I had a crash. Luckily, I’m ok, but due to the wind and some dirt flying around, I guess the grip was not ideal, so I couldn’t really avoid this. I’m sorry for my guys, who’ll have to repair my bike now. Still, I hope we can enjoy the race tomorrow.”
